Y'all just made my weekend!

Posted by DampOwl - March 22nd, 2020

Holy shit!

I've gotta say, I was heartbroken when the Animation Dingle festival was canceled due to COVID 19. It's been a rough couple of years and I was seriously excited to see my little college film get some attention. I was all ready to spend the weekend networking, seeing other indie films and having fun. Then this virus came along and it all felt like a sort of cruel joke. But the positive feedback I've gotten here on Newgrounds has reminded me why I love independent animation, and why I chose to pursue it.

When I got the notification that Tom Fulp himself was following me my heart skipped a beat. And when I saw that my film was on the front page, I lost my shit. Thank you, Newgrounds community, for the kind words and encouragement. Since I was a teenager I've dreamed of being featured on Newgrounds' front page, so to say I'm delighted and grateful is an understatement. I look forward to making more cartoons in the future, and I hope you all enjoy Zoe's adventures.

Feels like only yesterday I was an edgy 14 year-old watching Oney cartoons, drawing knockoff Eddsworld OCs with a mouse and a copy of MS Paint, playing Meet 'n Fuck and wishing I was making cartoons of my own. Eat shit, coronavirus.

Happy to hear NG could be a bright spot after COVID-19 messed up so many plans! Hoping we can create good memories for people during these strange times.

Tom, thanks for creating this site and giving indie animators a place to share their work! I've been using NG for years now and it's always been a great community.

I look forward to making more stuff.

Gotta say I really appreciated that answer too. :) Seldom do you get such an elaborate response, or intention, behind a title here. Or maybe I need to ask these things more often...

Regarding Ormen it's the same in Swedish, so this really hits home. Have barely listened to Bowie at all but I did see him in that one movie once, seems like an interesting dude...

And this, this post above, and the comment below: this is awesome. This is why I love NG too. Independent community just packed with creative people and appreciation. Ain't nothing like it. Reading stuff like this reaffirms the notion that I planted my roots in the right place. :P Looking forward to your future stuff too.

Thank yooouuuuu, hope it wasn't too self indulgent! And yeah, Bowie's a massive influence on my work. I listen to his stuff quite a lot. I wanna lean more into that influence with future stuff, he had a really cool aesthetic.

I feel the same way, Newgrounds is so lovely. Without it I literally wouldn't have had anywhere to put this film after spending so long on it. Like sure, there's YouTube, but it gets buried. It's great to have a community specifically catered towards animation and art, that encourages and welcomes creativity. Can't wait to make more!
